BBC Fresh Takes

Fresh Takes is a video series produced by BBC Reel. It currently consists of five pilot episodes from some of the most exciting new talent that the BBC is aware of. The idea is to bring a fresh take to digital storytelling by focusing on diverse voices and current perspectives. The subject matter is wide ranging, from aviation to food and drink.

I was tasked with coming up with an identity for Fresh Takes. The brief asked for something contemporary and modern, aimed at a Gen-Z audience, somehow incorporating references to film-making. I went through several iterations of design for the logo and accompanying materials, but we settled on using subtly distressed typography, fonts that clash and a host of graphic material focussing on different textures (as all the videos were to have different content). We used stylised framing devices and patterns inspired by clapperboards to bring in the film-making element. All of these assets are layered up and use a palette of blues inspired from the BBC Reel identity, resulting in a rich, layered design with dynamic compositions.

I produced individual digital assets for social media and youtube, as well as print material to be used during and in the run up to the official screening event. I also delivered a styleguide for the brand so that adaptation for future content would be simple.
